Look to the sea and mountains for beauty and lifestyle inspiration next year to align with Pinterest's 2025 trend predictions.

Why it matters: Niche trends demonstrate consumers' priorities and can inform business decisions across industries.

  • The 2025 trends span generations, but 65% are driven by Gen Z.

  • Pinterest said its reports over the past five years have proven to be 80% accurate.

Fun fact: Pinterest is also launching more than 20 exclusive products and experiences from Dec. 9 to 13 on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • These "trend drops" include a custom-made jacket, furniture sweepstakes, mountain-inspired event in New York City, and Urban Outfitters doll themed popups in New York, Los Angeles and Miami.

Here's what's in store for 2025, per Pinterest:

Beauty and makeup: cherry and aura vibes

Cherry colors will be beloved by Gen Z and millennials in makeup and fashion, Pinterest said.

  • Search interest for "cherry vibe" increased by 325% from September 2022 to August 2024, also extending beyond beauty to "cherry car" and "cherry martini."

Mood ring makeup will boom in 2025, per Pinterest. Gen Z and baby boomers in particular, are into "honing in on a color aesthetic and flaunting it from chin to cheek."

From the ocean: fishermen and sea witches

Fishermen aesthetic: Gen Z and Gen X are focusing on a "laid-back maritime attitude." What does this look like? Cable-knit sweaters, striped tops and sardine tattoos.

Mermaids are in the water with Gen Z and millennial interest in sultry siren makeup, wet wavy hair and sea-inspired manicures.

  • "It's so much more than seashells and starfish," Pinterest said.

In our cups and on our plates: soda and pickles

Soda will be reimagined, possibly with floats that are "anything but traditional," per Pinterest.

  • Searches for "fruit soda" increased by 185%, and searches for "cream soda aesthetic" were up 105%.

Pickles are in. Brine lovers, rejoice.

  • "From sweet treats to tangy cocktails, the oh-so-humble pickle is about to be in absolutely everything," Pinterest said.

  • Think pickle cakes, pickle de gallo, pickle fries and pickle margaritas.

Hosting: Nesting parties and surreal soirées

Baby showers are being reimagined as "nesting parties," focused more on helping new parents prep for postpartum life, like setting up the home and preparing freezer-friendly meal prep.

  • Searches for "nesting party" increased 205% and "diaper bouquet" increased 220%.

Parties held by Gen X and boomers are leading the drive to "infuse their tablescapes and decor with modern surrealism."

  • This could look like curvy candlesticks, fantastical flowers and gravity-defying centerpieces, per Pinterest.

Why it matters: It's the first time OpenAI is funding newsrooms as a part of a publisher deal, although the idea isn't novel.
